Agave x 'Azul Monterrey' forms a tight, symmetrical rosette of powdery, silver-blue leaves with slightly wavy margins and dark terminal spines. It produces a tall, branched central flower spike bearing yellow blossoms after many years of growth, after which the parent rosette dies. In cultivation, it requires a site with bright direct sunlight and an extremely well-draining, gritty succulent soil. People usually grow this plant as a container specimen or in arid rock gardens, as it tolerates extended drought once established. Its cultivar name 'Azul Monterrey' references its intense blue foliage coloration and its wild origin near Monterrey, Mexico.
