Native range: Northern Mexico (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango)

Known Name: Brain Cactus (there are several "Brain Cactus"), Stenocactus multicostatus
Hardiness: Hardy to ~25°F if kept dry
Mature size: ~3–4" tall, ~3–4" wide
Light: Full sun to half day sun
Water: Water sparingly; allow soil to dry completely between waterings
Soil: Fast-draining cactus mix with added grit or pumice
Dormancy: Winter dormancy (keep dry during this period)
Pet-safe: No
Plant size: Grown in 4" pot, shipped semi bare root

 

Echinofossulocactus multicostatus is a compact, globular cactus with dense ripples of thin, wavy ribs that give it a finely pleatedl look. In spring, it may produce soft pink to lavender flowers with darker central stripes.
